I am originally from Texarkana, AR. I grew up beside the old Cotton Belt Railroad Hospital at 2200 Dudley Ave. (a.k.a. Dudley Hill) on the College Hill side of town. I am searching for my long lost relatives, and researching my family history under these surnames: Bryan/O'Bryan/Bryant, Beauchamp, Cagle, Jackson/Ellis, Johnson, Martin, McKamie, Nation, Goode/Good, Smith, and Redclift.

This is a Cemetery. Lives are commemorated – deaths are recorded – families are reunited – memories are made tangible – and love is undisguised. This is a cemetery. Communities accord respect, families bestow reverence, historians seek information, and our heritage is thereby enriched. Testimonies of devotion, pride and remembrance are cast in bronze to pay warm tribute to accomplishments that add to the life – not the death of a loved one. The cemetery is homeland for memorials that are a sustaining source of comfort to the living. A cemetery is a history of people – a perpetual record of yesterday and a sanctuary of peace and quiet today. A cemetery exists because every life is worth loving and remembering always...♡ This was written by & courtesy of Find A Graver 4-854.

"Why do I do Find a Grave? Well, in the words of Ron West (find a grave ID: 47389384): For those of you who are looking for forgotten relatives, loved ones, friends and family, I just want to say to you that I do what I do here on Find A Grave, for you. No one should be forgotten! We may not all be rich, or famous, or powerful, or have invented great things but we all made a difference in some way and we deserve to be remembered for the differences we've made. If just by creating a memorial page, I feel that I have done something to remember that person and that they did live and that they did matter..." ~ These words are by Ron West (find a grave ID: #47389384). They really touched me. I feel the exact "same" way.

In my own words I would say,... "The past isn't the past - it isn't even over"... and to know who we are, and where we are going, we first must know where we came from... ~*~ Wanza.
I got into genealogy trying to help my mother find her dad, and to find the answers to the questions that she had about her dad, and had been asking all of her life. She had been longing for her dad, and for these answers all of her life. Her dad died when she was 3 years old of a heart attack, and her mother died when she was 4 in a tragic car wreck; so her family history never got passed down to her. It was very hard to find any info. on her dad going back to his original birth/family of origin - because (unknown to me at the time) he had changed his name/identity in 1917 from Sumner Jackson Ellis to Sumner E. Jackson. Praise God! Joy* I finally found him on Feb. 18, 2017 on ancestry.com by erasing the name Sumner Ellis Jackson, and typing in Sumner Jackson Ellis into my family tree. I found this information/alternate identity/original family/birth name (on familysearch.org in a 1900 census record for Warren, N.C.). I knew it was him when I saw that his birthday on that census record was the same date that I had for him under his new name (July 14th). I also found a marriage record of his first marriage to Kate Hudson with his original birth name in it on familysearch.org, in Danville, VA. in 1911 which matched his new name that I had in my mothers' records. All of his other records/info. started popping up (after I erased Sumner Ellis Jackson, and typed in Sumner Jackson Ellis) into my family tree; including all of his photos so that I was able to figure out what had happened, and see who he really was. I also have records of Sumner Ellis "Jackson" being divorced from Kate Hudson in Danville, VA, with the same dates, and the same set of parents, under his new identity, and new name (Sumner Ellis Jackson). I also have his medical records, C file from the military, and his Social Security papers under the Social Security No.'s for both of his names. I listed all of this information/evidence here in case anyone has any doubts about what I am saying is true. Jack is the same person under both of his identities. I know that I have all the proof that I need to show that this is true, and accurate information. I knew it was him when I first saw his photo on ancestry.com. It matched the photo that I had in my family album. I almost cried, but at the same time, I was too happy too. Thank God there is a way to have a permanent record here on findagrave.com to document all of this. Praise God! Joy* and many blessings to all the others out there who are praying, and searching for answers, and information on their family's history/ancestors. I hope, and pray that with God's help you will succeed in finding them.

The highest form of wisdom is kindness. ~ Jewish Proverb. ☆
My feelings are in each family we are called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones, and make them live again. To tell the family story, and to feel that somehow they know, and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us, "Tell our story." So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now, and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family, you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave, and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who I am, and why I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds, and indifference, and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone, and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships, and their losses, their never giving in, or giving up. Their resoluteness to go on, and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make, and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep, and immense understanding that they were doing it for us that we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love, and caring, and scribing each fact of their existence; Because we are them, and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation...
To answer the call, and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young, and old to step up, and put flesh on the bones.

A CALLING:
What calls us to find the ancestors? It goes beyond a simple curiosity. We are taken over, compelled, as if possessed by something bigger than us that is begging to be revealed. There is one of us in most every family, called to be the scribe. I am but one of the many in the long line of storytellers of our clan. Like others I am called to gather and assemble the ancestors-to breathe life back into them as far back as we can reach. We take what we find and chronicle the facts of their existence, remembering their names and who they were and what they did. They are the sum of who we are, for without them, we would not exist. We greet those who came before us, restoring their place in the familial line. We scribe their stories and their histories. We search for them in public libraries, county records, and weed-filled or well-kept cemeteries. We comb through yellowed newspapers, family archives, and lovely old letters and photo albums. We find them! And in finding them—we find ourselves.

PRAYER FOR GENEALOGISTS
Lord, help me dig into the past
And sift the sands of time
That I might find the roots that made
This family tree of mine.
Lord, help me trace the ancient road
On which my fathers trod
And led them through so many lands
To find our present sod.
Lord, help me find an ancient book
Or dusty manuscript
That's safely hidden now away
In some forgotten crypt.
Lord, let it bridge the gap that haunts
My soul when I can't find
The missing link between some name
That ends the same as mine.
